Position Summary


Wranglers start at 7:00 AM sharp and will bring all horses into the catch pen to feed. Trail rides vary depending on the day, and wranglers are expected to have horses fully ready 30 minutes prior to rides starting. The trail system is straightforward, and wranglers have the freedom to take guests on rides that suit the guest’s ability. The Wrangler at Rock Creek Cattle Company is responsible for leading trail rides, caring for horses, and ensuring an exceptional guest and member experience on our historic Montana ranch. This role involves daily horse care, tack maintenance, and general ranch duties, as well as providing safe and enjoyable rides for guests of varying skill levels. Wranglers must be skilled riders, have strong customer service abilities, and thrive in a fast-paced, outdoor environment. Outdoor weather conditions vary during the summer wranglers must be prepared to ride in all types of conditions. All Wranglers must be CPR & First Aid certified.

Responsibilities

We are seeking someone who is a self-starter and finds joy in hard work. Our horseback program consists of 16 horses of varying breeds that all help with our trail rides. An ideal candidate has the following qualities:


  • 2–3 years of trail guiding experience
  • Customer service experience
  • General ranch and maintenance knowledge
  • Ability to work long hours (10–14 per day)
  • Proficient in walk, trot, lope, sidestep
  • Clean driving record (transporting horses from time to time is necessary)
  • Ability to move the front and hind independently
  • Ability to adapt on the fly and remain professional and positive

Duties

  • Maintain overall herd health and report any issues
  • Work with all horses using correct groundwork and arena exercises to benefit animals
  • Lead trail rides (we offer rides ranging from 1–3 hours)
  • Tack up larger horses (many of our horses are half drafts to full drafts and can be quite tall)
  • General stable maintenance and fencing experience
  • General care for tack
