There’s an old saying in Montana that aptly states, “If you don’t like the weather wait 20 minutes and it will change.” The weather in Montana can change quickly. One minute you can be reaching for your rain slicker and the next searching for your sunscreen. So it pays to always be prepared for the worst and expect the best.
Montana has four distinct seasons. In the springtime the mountains and valleys become awash in a sea of green. Summertime brings warmer, but not oppressive, temperatures during the days followed by delightfully pleasant evenings. Autumn ushers in warm days, cool crisp nights and stunning fall colors. When winter arrives and the mercury begins to drop you’ll be surprised how many sunny days you’ll awake to and how deceivingly warm the lower temperatures feel.
January is, historically, the coldest month of the year with high temperatures averaging in the low 30s. The warmest month is July with averages highs in the low 80s that cool down to the very agreeable mid 40s.
