All custom homes need to adhere to the Design Guidelines and must be approved by the Design Review Committee (DRC) before construction begins. A list of architects and contractors approved by the DRC can be provided.
Architectural Style
It is difficult to categorize the Montana architectural style. We could call it Western but the West is a rather large place. So is Montana, for that matter. It’s vast and complex depending on where you find yourself. The style of the National Parks varies from the style of the mining towns, which are both different from the main streets of the boomtowns or the stark and stunning ranch homesteads. Most of the “Montana style” is inherently utilitarian, built for sustainability and survival, but certainly not lacking in beauty. This is perhaps because, historically, structures were built to work with nature, not fight against it.
For Rock Creek Cattle Company, you will find a melding of three vernaculars – the Historical Western, the Great Lodge, and the Camp Style. Dry-stacked stones that mirror nature yet are the work of skilled masons. Flat log construction with large chinking. Natural details here and there, a tree trunk column, an antler sconce. Metal roofs that rust organically to colors that complement the landscape. Structures and windows positioned to embrace Big Sky Country’s famous play of light and shadow.
